What is Kidney Cancer (Cervical cancer)?

Kidney cancer occurs when the cells in the kidney grow out of control and form a tumor. Renal cell carcinoma is the most common type of kidney cancer in adult.

Symptoms

Types

  • Renal cell carcinoma: Renal cell carcinoma is the most common type of which develops in the proximal renal tubules that make up the kidney’s filtration system.
  • Urothelial carcinoma: It accounts for 5% to 10% of the kidney cancers diagnosed in adults. Urothelial carcinoma occurs in the area of the kidney where urine collects before moving to the bladder, called the renal pelvis
  • Sarcoma: It is a type of cancer which develops in the soft tissue of the kidney. It is usually treated with surgery.
  • Wilms tumor: It is most common in children which account about 1% of kidney cancers.
  • Lymphoma: They can enlarge both kidneys and is associated with enlarged lymph nodes, called lymphadenopathy, in other parts of the body, including the neck, chest, and abdominal cavity.

Stages

Stage I

The tumor in the kidney is small (7 cm or less across) and limited to the kidney.

Stage II

The tumor has grown larger but still remains within the kidney. There is no evidence of spread to lymph nodes or distant sites.

Stage III

The tumor has grown beyond the kidney and may now extend into the adrenal glands or nearby tissues or organs.

Stage IV

The tumor may be any size and has grown beyond the kidney. The cancer may have spread to lymph nodes or distant sites like the liver, lung or bladder.
